a memory stick and Internet records

Authorities in Australia and the United States linked Peters to the case through files in a USB thumb drive that was attached to the fake bomb placed around the feather hair extensions wholesale neck of the 18-year-old daughter of the targeted family, according to the complaint filed on behalf of Australian authorities. On August 3, Peters allegedly broke into a Mosman, Australia, home wearing a mask and carrying a baseball bat that he purchased using his own credit card, the complaint says.

Old-fashioned detective work has unraveled a complicated but flawed scheme to extort an Australian family by strapping a fake bomb to an 18-year-old woman, court documents reveal. The documents were filed in U.S. District Court in Louisville, Kentucky, because the suspect was arrested near there Monday after allegedly leaving Australia last week.

He allegedly looped a black box around the young woman's neck, claiming in an feather hair extensions accompanying note that it contained "powerful new technology plastic explosives," according to the complaint. It was accessed only three times, all in the hours following the break-in, police said. One access occurred at a library in Kincumber, Australia; the other two were at a business in Avoca Beach, Australia.

Surveillance video, a memory stick and Internet records helped officials track down Paul Douglas Peters, 50, according to the complaint for provisional arrest.Australian police plan to seek charges against Peters that include kidnapping, aggravated breaking and entering with intent to commit a serious indictable offense, and demanding prada handbags 2011 property by force with intent to steal, according to the complaint. Are We Wasting Our "Cognitive Surplus"?

So are social networks and social media just another time-killing form of entertainment that gets in the way of the "real world"—and thereby prevents us from either raising serious feather hair extensions issues or engaging with the world in a creative way?

There are certainly aspects of that in Facebook, with games like FarmVille and Mafia Wars that consume thousands of hours of potentially productive time—something Google+ has now bought into as well with its addition of games like Angry Birds and Bejewelled. Media analyst and journalism professor Clay Shirky has written about the "cognitive surplus" that comes when people start collaborating in various ways online instead of just watching television. But what happens when all that free time and brainpower is sucked up by Angry Birds? Are we wasting our cognitive surplus?

As Google (GOOG) tries to boost its social market share with its new Google+ feather hair extensions network—which just got some Facebook-style games designed to increase engagement—and Twitter adds new activity streams to pull users in, and Facebook tries to become the one network that rules them all, social media fatigue seems to be an increasingly likely outcome. Some are already complaining about the number of directions they are being pulled in when it comes to social content-sharing, and cartoonist Scott Adams recently argued that all this constant stimulation is actually getting in the way of true creativity. Are we amusing ourselves to death online, and if so, what is the cure?

Twitter can suffer from similar problems, although games aren’t really a part of the picture (at least not yet). Amusing or not-so-amusing hashtags often take over the network, and many people are happy using their streams to link to the latest hilarious video from College Humor or to post cat photos or animated GIFs—something that has also begun to take over Google+, much to the annoyance of some users.

The idea of amusing ourselves to death comes from author Neil Postman, who wrote a book by the same name in 1985, in which he argued that instead of being oppressed by dictators the way George Orwell imagined it in his novel 1984, North American society was instead being dulled into insensitivity by television—in the same way that Aldous Huxley imagined a society addicted to a soporific drug called "soma," in his book Brave New World. For Postman, even television prada handbags 2011 news was a form of entertainment rather than something that would actually help people become informed.

The stalled GDP growth

The stalled GDP growth follows an exceptional 0.9% surge in the first quarter, which was boosted by businesses increasing their stocks. Such feather hair extensions activity failed to contribute to growth in the second quarter. The slowdown is another blow to France at the end of a week when markets have been plunged into turmoil, partly due to investors questioning France's triple-A rating after the U.S. was downgraded last week by Standard & Poor's Corp. There have also been swirling concerns about the health of the large French banks.

Data released Friday showed the French economy failed to grow in the second quarter from the first as consumers sharply cut spending, complicating government plans to reduce its deficit as financial markets question its prized triple-A credit rating.

Wild swings in bank shares prompted France's stock feather hair extensions wholesale market regulator, along with those in Belgium, Italy and Spain, to slap restrictions on short selling of financial shares effective Friday. If the French economy fails to expand at the 2% pace the government is expecting for this year, the official target of bringing the deficit down to 5.7% of GDP from 7.1% last year could be compromised. The government insists it will meet its deficit targets come what may, meaning it may need to embark on further spending cuts if growth disappoints.

Gross domestic product in the euro zone's second-largest economy was flat in the second quarter after a 0.9% expansion in the first quarter from the end of 2010, national statistics agency Insee said. The figure dashed expectations of a 0.3% expansion, fueling concerns the government may not have the breathing space to meet its deficit targets. French consumer spending, the traditional growth driver of the domestic economy, had held up during the recession in 2009. Consumer spending was supported through the economic downturn by a government-funded car-scrapping prada handbags 2011 scheme, which was completely phased out at the end of 2010.
