Finish 80-82 in Anaheim

This is exactly what Arte Moreno envisioned when he bought the Angels in 2003: a perennial contender on the field, a big-market spender off it, and high expectations everywhere."I think it's good that the chanel sunglasses 2011 culture has changed," Moreno said. "These fans want to be associated with a winner, not a loser."The Angels made the playoffs three times in their first 40 years. They've reached the playoffs six times in nine years entering their 50th-anniversary season, which opens Thursday in Kansas City. March 30, 2011, 6:14 p.m.E-mail Print Share  Text Size Finish 80-82 in Pittsburgh or Kansas City, and fans and team officials are doing cartwheels in the streets.Finish 80-82 in Anaheim, as the Angels did last season, and fans are irate, the scouting director and head trainer are fired, and the owner is "angry, disappointed," and vows to "spend shop online 2011 whatever it takes to return to the playoffs." Most years before 2002, an 80-82 mark by the Angels would have been deemed a success, but the 2002 World Series championship and five American League West titles from 2004 to 2009 changed all that."We place high expectations on ourselves, so a season like last year is not acceptable," General Manager Tony Reagins said. there's space

"I don't think the workers have the energy they need to work under these extremely tough conditions," said Kazuma Yokota, who heads the Japanese Nuclear and shop online 2011 Industrial Safety Agency's local office in charge of inspections at the plant. The facility's operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co., or Tepco, did not immediately respond to Yokota's comments. These are the grueling, Spartan living conditions for workers at the Fukushima nuclear power plant who are racing to connect electric cables, repair machinery and check equipment in order to avert a meltdown at the power balance facility 150 miles northeast of Tokyo.A Japanese nuclear regulatory official who spent five days at the power plant as an observer on Monday gave reporters the first detailed look at what life is like for the hundreds of workers remaining at the facility.Photos: Japan's earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis When they are pumping radioactive water from basements or repairing machinery in control rooms, the workers breathe through respirators and dress in white suits with hoods that cover them from head to toe, which offer substantial protection but are not foolproof. Even the short periods that they spend near the reactors — they work in one-hour shifts — can expose them to dangerously high radiation levels. Hundreds of workers sleep and eat in one huge room, about 6,200 square feet, on the second floor of a building a short distance from the reactor sites. They sleep with just one blanket apiece anywhere there's space — in a conference room, in the hallway, near the bathroom. Because deliveries of supplies are limited, they get by on very little cheap power balance food: Breakfast is packages of high-calorie emergency crackers and a small carton of vegetable juice; dinner consists of a small bag of "magic rice" (just add bottled water) and a can of chicken, mackerel or curry. There is no lunch — handing out a noontime meal would be too complicated in the crowded two-story building.

The earthquake

"Steam may have condensed [ ] carrying water from within the containment vessel." Rolling blackouts to cut back on electricity use in the Kanto region of Japan were resumed today to help counter the energy shortages caused by damage to the nuclear plant. Japan's weather shop online 2011 agency said that the strong tremor was believed to be the latest in a string of aftershocks to hit the region following the massive earthquake just over two weeks ago. A large clean-up and restoration project remains in place across the northeast of Japan following widespread devastation and the loss of more than 27,000 lives. Fears of radiation contamination are continuing to hamper procedures and are causing widespread unease following damage to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.  After correcting this to 100,000 times higher the government strongly criticised TEPCO for the "absolutely power balance unacceptable" mistake. The highly contaminated water has now been attributed to the partial melting of the Number 2 reactor's fuel rods after it was hit by the March 11 earthquake and subsequent tsunami. Yukio Edano, the chief cabinet secretary, said: "The radiation seems to have come from the fuel rods that were partially melted down and came into contact with the water used to cool the reactor.  Teams of workers at the nuclear plant located 150 miles north of Tokyo are continuing a tense battle around the clock to stem radiation leaks and restore control inside four of its six reactors. Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO), the operators of the plant, caused confusion on Sunday when they erroneously reported that radiation levels in water within one of the reactors was 10 million times higher than normal.  The earthquake, measuring 6.5 on the Richter Scale, was pinpointed to 50 miles east of Oshika peninsula in Miyagi prefecture, an area still recovering from the devastation of the March 11 earthquake and power balance tsunami. Following the new earthquake, the Japanese authorities issued a 20 inch tsunami warning for the Pacific coastal region which was later lifted, with no reports of immediate casualties or further damage.

full extent

Japanese companies are not only reeling from chanel sunglasses 2011 damage to factories and suppliers in quake-hit northeastern Japan, but are also suffering from fuel shortages nationwide and power outages in the Tokyo area that are affecting production, distribution and the ability of staff to get to work. The world's biggest automaker has suspended production at all of its 12 domestic assembly plants at least through March 26 and has estimated a production loss of 140,000 vehicles until then. The automaker is just one of dozens, if not hundreds, of Japanese manufacturers facing disruptions to their supply chains as a result of the quake, the subsequent tsunami and a still-unresolved nuclear threat.  "We still don't know the full extent of what can be done to substitute the affected parts," Honda Motor Co spokeswoman Natsuo Asanuma said. Japan's No.3 automaker has suspended production in Japan at least until March 27.  Supply chain disruptions in Japan have forced at least one global automaker to delay the launch of two new models and are forcing other industries to shutter plants and rethink their logistical infrastructure. Toyota Motor Corp said on Wednesday it would delay the launch in Japan of two new additions to the Prius line-up, a wagon and a minivan, from the originally planned end-April due to production shop online 2011 disruptions from this month's devastating earthquake.

That was quite upsetting

While the city is sensitive toward the concerns of transgender people, said Gabriel Taussig of the Law Department, the Health Department “must be satisfied that an christian louboutin 2011 applicant has completely and permanently transitioned to the acquired gender prior to the issuance of a new birth certificate.”  The medical and scientific communities “have come to recognize the increasing importance of factors other than chromosomes and genitalia in determining sex, including the sex of the brain or one’s self-identified sex,” the lawsuits say. “These communities have further concluded that there is a biological basis for considering a person to be male even if that person has female chromosomes and genitalia.”  But some disagree. Peter Sprigg, a senior fellow for policy studies at the Family Research Council, a socially conservative Christian policy organization, said that allowing transgender people, even someone who has had genital surgery, to change their sex on legal documents would essentially be “a form of fraud.” I think you have the objective reality of their genital makeup and their chromosomal makeup, weighed against the entirely subjective experience of so-called gender identity,” Mr. Sprigg said. “I think the objective considerations are the only thing that should be recognized by the law.”  That was quite upsetting,” she said on Tuesday. Mr. Berkley, 30, said he was similarly humiliated when he was applying for health insurance, and his birth certificate caused the woman on the other side of the desk to look at him suspiciously. While genital surgery was seen as definitive proof of a sex change when the health code was created in 1971, the lawsuits say there are many other ways that one can be shop online 2011  clinically considered a member of the other sex.

Microsoft's moves

One new feature Amazon is bringing from its retailer bag of tricks: the free trial. In the Web version of its store, customers can try out many of the apps (using their mouse to control the christian louboutin 2011 screen) before they buy. Amazon said it will tie its Appstore to other items people search for on its site. "If you are looking at basketball attire, we might surface basketball apps to you in the store," said Aaron Rubenson, Amazon's category leader for the Appstore. The problem of finding apps has spawned new businesses to help the developers. A San Jose, Calif., company called GTekna Corp. sells an app-promotion service.GTekna offers a money back guarantee to place apps in the top 25 list in the Apple App Store within three days through contracts with community websites that agree to provide incentives for their members to download apps that are promoted. The service, which can cost $5,000 for a game app, is so popular that it is booked for the next month.  Developers are counting on Amazon's new Appstore for Android devices bring its familiar shopping experience and sophisticated recommendation technology to mobile apps. "My hope is that users will more easily find my apps," said Brian Wood, CEO of Snapwood Apps, which develops photography apps. Angry Birds developer Rovio created different versions of its app to occupy more of the spots on the top download lists. In addition to its main game, it has a seasonal version that it adapts for holidays. It also launched a new version with a tie-in to the movie "Angry Birds Rio" in partnership with News Corp.'s Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. this week. "It gives us more shop online 2011  visibility," said Ville Heijari, a spokesman for Rovio. News Corp. also owns The Wall Street Journal.
